Making my own DIY body butter was easy and fun! My skin is so sensitive and I was tired of trying all the store bought skin care products. I kept getting rashes and was not too happy with the skin care ingredients.
I scoured the Internet for DIY body butter recipes. I found many and then came up with my own based on the texture that I preferred.
I also made my own DIY Sunscreen based on the body butter recipes. Enjoy!
DIY Body Butter Recipe
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
- 1 tablespoon almond oil
- Optional: Essential Oils for scent- 10-30 drops depending on the essential oils used.
Instructions
- In a double boiler or glass bowl, combine all ingredients except zinc oxide and essential oils.
- Bring to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are melted.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Move to fridge and let cool another 1/2 to 1 hour or until starting to harden but still somewhat soft.
- Use a hand electric mixer to whip for 10 minutes until fluffy.
- Return to fridge for 10-15 minutes to set. Mix again.
Store in a glass jar with a lid and use as you would regular lotion or body butter. If your home stays above 75 degrees, it may soften and need to be kept at the fridge, but it will stay whipped at a temperature lower than that.
Clean up. Use a paper towel to clean all excess off the spoon and bowl. Get as much off as possible before cleaning in the sink so all that oil does not go in your drain.

- Slowly mix in Zinc Oxide. Be careful not to breathe it in. I mix in slowly with a spoon before using the electric mixed so it all stays in the bowl.
- Return to fridge for 10-15 minutes to set. Mix again.
