If you have a home business, learning to accept rejection is a must. You may feel passionate about the products or services and love sharing them! Am I right?
You may be so enthusiastic that you want everyone to love the products as much as you do.
The key thing to remember is that not everyone will feel as you do. That can lead to dealing with constant rejection! It’s a challenge to move forward with your home business after you’ve had a few rejections, but you must!
I’ve had to cope with being rejected with my doTERRA business. Is it because of me or the essential oils? No. It’s because everyone is different and each person has their own likes and dislikes. Perhaps they are not ready to get started with essential oils.
Heck it took me three years before I purchased my first essential oil! Imagine how the people felt that originally shared the products with me?
If you learn to accept rejection gracefully, you can easily recover from those moments of doubt or failure.
Here are your tips to learn how to accept rejection gracefully and keep moving forward.
1 – Don’t take rejection personally.
It’s easy to take a rejection personally, especially if it’s from someone you know. Keep in mind, they are not really rejecting you. They are rejecting what you have to offer.
I think back to when I rejected essential oils. I didn’t reject the lovely people who shared them with me. In fact, some are my family members!
I just wasn’t into it. With me, it was a matter of timing and when I was ready to receive the information in a meaningful way.
OK, it took three years but you get the point!
Remember, your offer may or may not fit a person’s circumstances or life at that moment in time.
2 – Recognize your effort.
Did you at least try to put yourself out there? If yes, give yourself the recognition you deserve. Some people are so fearful of rejection they won’t even share their excitement about the products.
You can bet that’s not me!
Don’t let these rejections hold you back from success. Get out of your comfort zone and stay there, then move further out of it.
Acknowledge your efforts for doing so and give yourself a hand!

3 – Collect rejections and NOs.
Rejection is very common in any home business. Chances are you’ll experience rejection over and over again.
I used to feel awful about that until I read this fantastic book called “Go for NO. YES is the Destination. NO is How to Get There”. You just have to read it!
Instead of adding up your YES’s, start adding up those NO’s. The more you get, the closer you will get to a Yes! Seriously.
In no time, you’ll be accepting rejections like nobody’s business and moving on. That’s when you’ll start getting more yes’s.
4 – What can you learn from your rejections?
Instead of being full of self-pity, analyze your rejections. Look for ways that you can do better. Was it a blatant sales pitch? Maybe you didn’t sound sincere to the person.
The most successful people have failed over and over. That’s why they succeed. Be sure that you are doing your best.
5 – See how far you’ve come.
In any business, we get rejections. That is just a fact. Perhaps you have had a few rejections already and feel discouraged.
Don’t. Think about your first rejection and the last one. What changes do you recognize in yourself? What have you accomplished?
Recognize your personal growth and development. And most of all, keep moving forward!
6 – Remember the reason you started.
When I wallow in self-pity, it’s easy to want to give up. Especially if you feel like you are not getting anywhere.
That is when it’s important to remember why you started. When I felt discouraged in my business a few years ago, I nearly gave up. But that desire inside me kept me going. As a result, I did succeed and was able to walk away from a corporate job. Yay!
Stay motivated by focusing on your WHY. You can do it!
